Portfolio Trading Patterns

The Trading Patterns tab is your workspace’s library of technical analysis. Whenever you log a trade in the Trade Journal, these are the exact setups, triggers, and risk factors you will be able to tag your execution with.

By defining your patterns here, the Analytics engine can later calculate the exact win rate and mathematical expectancy of every specific setup you trade.

The Patterns Table

The main screen displays a comprehensive table of every pattern active within your workspace. You can filter, sort, and scan these columns to see how each setup is mathematically and structurally treated by the app:

ColumnFunctional Breakdown

Name

The unique identifier for the trading pattern. This can be a standard setup (like a Hammer or RSI Divergence) or a personalized strategy name.

Description

The explicit execution rules. System patterns include structured instructions for entries, stops, and targets. User patterns display your own custom notes.

Type

The technical engine behind the setup. Grouped by structural formations (Candlestick, Reversal, Gap) or indicator categories (Trend, Momentum, Volume).

Direction

The expected trend bias. Bullish (🟢) signals upward movement, Bearish (🔴) signals downward movement, and Neutral (🟣) indicates no directional bias.

Time frames

Determines if the ruleset relies on candle intervals. Enabled (✅) for chart-dependent patterns. Disabled (❌) for independent models like macro news.

Long Setup

A structural green light to enter a buy-side trade. Used exclusively for initiating new long positions.

Long Risk

An active technical warning against existing buy-side exposure. Signals that a hostile pattern has formed and you should tighten stops.

Short Setup

A structural green light to enter a sell-side trade. Used exclusively for initiating new short positions.

Short Risk

An active technical warning against existing sell-side exposure. Signals that a hostile demand zone is forming and you should protect capital.

System vs. Custom Patterns: If you included System Patterns during your initial portfolio creation, your table pre-populates with dozens of industry-standard setups. Note that System Patterns are locked and cannot be edited or deleted. However, you can freely add, tweak, or remove your own Custom Patterns at any time.

Creating a Custom Pattern

If you execute a unique proprietary edge, trade an off-beat indicator combination, or follow specific price-action footprints, you can instantly integrate it into your system by clicking the + New trading pattern button at the top right of the screen.

Follow these steps within the configuration modal to build out your custom pattern rules:

Basic Details

This is where you establish the core identity of your pattern configuration. Before diving into the deep technical rules, use these foundational fields to name your strategy and outline its general purpose so it’s easily recognizable across your workspace.

  • Name (Required): Enter a distinct, clear title so you can easily identify and select this setup later.
  • Description: Provide a brief summary or high-level overview detailing the core objective and behavior of this configuration.

Classification

Assign structural metadata so the analytics dashboard can properly isolate historical performance:

  • Type: Group your pattern into structural configurations (e.g., Candlestick, Continuation, Harmonic, Reversal, Gap) or indicator engines (e.g., Trend, Momentum, Volume, Volatility).
  • Direction: Label the signature as Bullish, Bearish, or Neutral depending on its primary market impact.
  • Time frames: Toggle to Enabled if the pattern is strictly chart-bound, or Disabled if it operates independent of structural time intervals (such as macro fundamental models).

Position Parameters

Map the logic checkboxes at the base of the modal to inform the system how this pattern behaves relative to active market exposure:

  • Long position: Check Setup if this pattern serves as your definitive green-light trigger to execute a fresh buy entry. Check Risk if this setup acts as an active structural warning against holding long trades.
  • Short position: Check Setup if this pattern serves as your definitive trigger to execute a short sell entry. Check Risk if this setup acts as a structural warning against holding short trades.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers based on this page's topic.

A Setup signal acts as a validated entry trigger to initiate a long or short trade, whereas a Risk signal serves as an adverse technical warning indicating that an existing position should have its stops tightened or be closed.

System Patterns represent standardized, built-in technical setups across all workspaces to maintain baseline analytics consistency, though users can freely create, customize, or delete their own Custom Patterns.

Enabling Time Frame Dependency requires you to select a specific candle interval (e.g., 15m, 1h, 4h) when tagging trades, allowing the analytics engine to calculate setup win rates on exact chart timeframes.
