Logging Your First Trade
Now that you have successfully registered and logged in, you are ready for the most important part: getting your trading data into the system!
Before you can record your first execution, Trading Metrics requires you to establish a strict data hierarchy. To ensure accurate analytics and performance tracking, the platform operates on a structured, three-step prerequisite model: Portfolio ➔ Trading Plan ➔ Trade.

Create Your Portfolio
Your Portfolio is like a master folder for your trades. It represents the trading account or the specific strategy you are using. You can’t log a trade without telling the system which portfolio it belongs to!
Navigate to Portfolio Section
Navigate to the Portfolio section in the app and click “New Portfolio”.
Name and Describe Your Portfolio
Enter a distinctive Name that reflects the unique characteristics of this portfolio. Such as the specific strategy, asset class, or broker. Making it instantly recognizable as you navigate the app. Then, add a clear Description to detail your goals or account rules for this specific workspace.
Configure Trading Patterns
You can choose to load built-in System Patterns to help you categorize trades faster. (Highly recommended for new users or if you want to use popular setups without adding them manually!) Alternatively, you can disable them to only use your own custom patterns.
Configure Trading Plans
Choose your starting Trading Plan configuration from the dropdown options:
-
Select With Example Plans to automatically populate your portfolio with pre-configured templates that demonstrate how the system works (highly recommended since you can easily modify or delete them later).
-
Alternatively, select Start Empty if you prefer a completely clean slate to build your own strategies from scratch.
Define Default Values
Finally, define your base settings by selecting a Default asset, which is the primary currency the system will use to calculate and display all values across your analytics and the entire portfolio. Then, specify your initial funding by choosing the Initial deposit asset you used for your first-time deposit, entering the exact Initial deposit amount, and selecting the precise date and time under Initial deposit executed at when that first deposit occurred.

Define a Trading Plan
Your Trading Plan serves as the execution framework for your strategy, defining the risk parameters and validation rules for your positions. By establishing a trading plan within your portfolio, the system can track your consistency and automatically verify if your logged trades strictly adhere to your predefined risk limits, technical confluences, and execution checklists.
Navigate to Trading Plans
Open your newly created Portfolio by clicking “Open”, navigate to the Trading Plans tab in the sub-menu, and click “New Trading Plan”.
Name and Describe Your Plan
Enter a unique Trading Plan Name that clearly characterizes the strategy style (such as “Trend Continuation” or “Reversal Strategy”) so you can instantly recognize it later. Then, add a detailed Trading Plan Description to map out your high-level goals or specific market conditions required for this strategy.
Set Risk and Pattern Rules
Define your strict mathematical guardrails:
- Set your Max risk % to lock in your maximum allowable capital exposure per position
- Enter a Min R-Multiple to establish your minimum acceptable reward-to-risk threshold
- Declare the Min Patterns to specify the absolute lowest number of technical confluences required to validate a setup.
Build Entry and Exit Checklists
Establish your strategy’s operational rules by adding specific conditions under both the Entry Checklist and Exit Checklist:
- Interactive Validation: Every item acts as a manual requirement you physically check off when logging a trade to verify strategy compliance.
- Prioritize Critical Rules: Flag your absolute most essential criteria as important. This visually highlights them on the trade entry screen, keeping your highest-priority rules front and center before execution.

Add Your First Trade
With your portfolio and trading plan ready, you can now log your first trade. This connects your actual market execution to your journal, instantly calculating your performance analytics and verifying if you followed your strategy rules.
Access the Trade Journal
Open the Trade Journal from the primary navigation menu and select “New Trade” to initialize the new trade modal.
Set Core Position Details & Emotion
Fill out the primary fields to define your trade:
- Portfolio: Select your previously created Portfolio.
- Broker: Choose the Broker where the trade was executed.
- Trading Pair: Choose the specific Trading Pair.
- Side: Select your position direction (Long or Short).
- Trading Plan: Select your previously created Trading Plan.
- Emotion: Select your psychological state during execution (Confident, Neutral, Anxious, FOMO, Frustrated, or Revenge).
- Notes: Add any relevant notes or additional context about this trade.
Complete Plan Checks & Compliance
Before creating your trade, evaluate your setup against your strategy’s active rules:
- Plan Checks: Manually check off your specific Entry and Exit criteria. Any critical rules you previously flagged as IMPORTANT will be highlighted in orange to ensure you don’t overlook your core setup requirements.
- Plan Compliance: Review the live status tracker at the bottom before saving. This block serves as a real-time reminder of your plan’s hard guardrails, automatically verifying if your trade meets your Risk Max, Min Patterns, and R-Multiple min thresholds.
Select Trade Patterns
Document the technical configurations for your trade across your analyzed timeframes:
- Setup Patterns: Select the technical setups that triggered your entry. You can also enable “Trading Patterns” option directly on chart to visually scan and verify active patterns across all timeframes.
- Risk Patterns: Identify any market warnings or counter-signals present on your chart during entry.
- Mistakes: Leave this section blank when first entering a trade. If the trade results in a loss later on, you can return here to flag a specific risk pattern as the mistake that caused the trade to fail.
- Setup Pattern Combination Analysis: Review the automated insights at the bottom. The system automatically evaluates your previously logged trades using this exact combination of setups along with individual ones to show you if it historically benefits your edge or hurts your performance.
Input Trade Orders & Risk Levels
Enter your exact execution data and risk parameters to track the trade:
- Trade Orders: Log your order details including the Time, Action (Open/Close Long, or Open/Close Short, depending on the trade side), Price, and Amount. The system automatically calculates the Notional Amount, and you can manually add your broker Fees.
- Trade Stop Losses: Set your protective guardrails by entering your Stop price and Stop amount. The platform automatically computes your total cash Risk and Risk %.
- Trade Targets: Define your profit taking levels by entering your Target price and Target amount. The system automatically tracks your potential Target profit and Target profit %.
Review Trade Statistics
If you want to double-check your position’s mathematical breakdown before saving, you can review the live analytics summary:
- Risk/Reward Analysis: This is a vital check to ensure your Potential R-Multiple directly matches or exceeds the minimum R-multiple target you previously defined in your Trading Plan.
- Position & Risk Tracking: Verify all compiled calculations such as your total position size, exact portfolio risk amounts, and stop loss percentages to ensure all numbers are accurate and within your risk limits.
- Target Projections: Review your profit targets and potential reward percentages to confirm your expected upside aligns with your execution playbook.
